This is the operating environment the Phoenix Program was designed to address, and mining is where the methodology was first applied at scale. In underperforming operations, the gap between planned and actual output is often caused by a combination of weak management operating disciplines and inconsistent technical execution. Workforce engagement is essential in large, remote mining operations with diverse cultural, linguistic and employment structures. We tailor focus groups, improvement workshops and coaching to the operating context of each site, giving frontline teams a direct role in identifying constraints, improving how work is performed and taking ownership of the results.
Mining productivity is often lost between functions and teams. That is, between drill and blast and load and haul, maintenance and operations, planning and execution, owner teams and contractors, and the site and its supply chain. We hand over when the management operating system is functioning without direct Silverwing intervention, supervisors are leading performance improvement and site teams have the tools, disciplines and capability required to sustain and build on the gains.
