Diagnostics and Performance Review
An independent, evidence-based operational performance review of where value is being lost, how much can be recovered and what it will take to achieve it.
A Clear View Before Committing Further
A diagnostic is the lowest-risk way to begin working with Silverwing. It gives owners, boards and management teams a clear view of current performance, the value at stake and the practical actions required to improve results without committing to a broader transformation program.
Clients typically commission a diagnostic when they need an independent assessment of:
- Why an operation is underperforming
- Where productivity, margin or cash flow is being lost
- Whether management reporting reflects operational reality
- What level of improvement is realistically achievable
- Which operational or organisational constraints should be addressed first
- Whether a wider transformation program is commercially justified
- What implementation approach, resources and governance would be required
The diagnostic can assess an entire organisation, a specific operating site, a business unit or a defined performance issue.
What You Receive
The engagement concludes with a costed, decision-ready solution that often includes:
A clear assessment of current operational and organisational performance
Prioritised findings and improvement opportunities
Root-cause analysis of the principal performance constraints
A recommended implementation approach
A high-level plan covering scope, schedule, resources and outputs
Defined KPIs and performance measurement requirements
Governance and accountability recommendations
Proposed commercial arrangements for any subsequent program
A term sheet for review
A detailed project management plan where implementation is approved
The client retains the diagnostic findings regardless of whether it proceeds with Silverwing into implementation.
What We Assess
Our senior practitioners work directly with leadership and operational teams to establish an evidence-based view of the organisation, its performance and its improvement potential. The assessment may include:
The scope is calibrated to the client’s mandate. We focus on the areas most likely to affect enterprise value and bottom-line performance rather than conducting a broad, theoretical review.
What the Diagnostic Delivers
The diagnostic is designed to:
The result is a practical basis for decision-making as to whether it makes sense to engage further or not.
How the Engagement Works
Scope and alignment
We agree the operational questions to be answered, the areas to be assessed, the information required and the expected outputs.
Evidence gathering
Our practitioners review performance data, operating processes, management systems and relevant financial information. This is supported by interviews, observation and direct engagement with leadership and operational teams.
Analysis and validation
We analyse the evidence, identify value leakage and test the findings with the people closest to the operation. Opportunities are assessed for value, feasibility, timing and execution risk.
Decision-ready recommendation
We present the findings, quantify the improvement opportunity and define the recommended course of action. Where a broader program is justified, the proposed scope, KPIs and commercial terms are established upfront.
Why the Model Works
The Phoenix Program
The diagnostic is the first phase of the Phoenix Program. Silverwing’s methodology for identifying value leakage, designing the required intervention, delivering measurable improvement and transferring the capability required to sustain results.
Commercial Structure
Diagnostics are delivered as defined, standalone engagements. The scope, schedule, outputs, responsibilities and professional fees are agreed before work begins. The client is not required to proceed into a wider transformation or implementation program.
Where implementation is recommended, the proposed scope, commercial structure and performance KPIs are presented separately for the client’s consideration.
Track Record
Our diagnostic and implementation approach is grounded in senior practitioners’ experience delivering complex operational improvement across asset-heavy industries. The broader transformation work using the same methodology that helped develop the Phoenix Program has contributed to:
