Marty McKowen is a mining operations and training specialist with 24 years of international experience across Australia and Asia. He designs and implements lean Management Operating Systems in mining and heavy industrial environments, working the full value chain from the pit face through to processing and dispatch. His approach is built on time spent on live sites alongside the crews who run them, translating management system theory into shift-level routines that supervisors actually use.
Marty’s core strength is the link between systems and the people who operate them. He builds the planning, scheduling, and performance management architecture, then coaches frontline supervisors and superintendents to run it themselves, so the gains hold after the support team leaves. That combination of design and capability transfer has delivered productivity improvements of up to 35 percent at an Indonesian coal mine, 18M AUD in savings across Asian mining and power operations through capex and opex reduction, and measurable lifts in pit productivity, development dilution, and mine to mill performance.
He has led multinational teams through complex operational change, including an international coalition that designed and implemented a new Safety Management System in a demanding mining environment, cutting incidents by 5 percent while performance productivity rose from 15 percent to 36 percent. Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and experienced across multi-shift, multi-cultural operations, Marty is equally comfortable in the planning room and on the bench.
